Jt, Just wondering when will the Rookie class separate the points into Feature 1 class and the Feature 2 class. As of now the points are put all together and it really does not show the accurate points of a driver. We spoke to Ronald about it and he was surprise that they were not doing that yet. Ms, Holmes
I know your question is directed at at JT. But I think the points are right as they are posted. The thing is, running 2 feature you come out with 2 karts that get a 1st and 30pts. I don't understand how you can get a TRUE track points champion out of running two features. I have not understood this from the beginning. But that is how Mr. Parker chooses to do it and it is his show. How ever he wants to run things is fine with us.
BUT! There is always a (BUTT) RIGHT? LOL!
I myself think they should QUALIFY ALL the rookies and then run them in ONE feature. Then you could determine a TRUE track points champion. The HECK with Drawing numbers... LOL! That is crazy. That's kinda like having a superbowl and having the two teams show up and say, "We're going to draw numbers to see who gets first place" the best team would not always win. Therefore you would never get the true champion.
Anyway, That's just my thoughts on the whole Rookie Points thing. I say, QUALIFY & RACE them in the order they qualify. WITH ALL OF THE KARTS in ONE FEATURE! Then you know you have a true points champion.
Like I said, Just my 2 cents. But we will go with what ever Mr. Parker Chooses and just be glad to have such a nice place to call our HOME track.
Hope to see y'all on the 12th

Hey Sawyer's Dad,
I agree with 100% about putting all the rookies into one Feature and let them race, I do respect Ronald's decisions, we might argue with him time to time but we do respect him and what he does for ALL the drivers.
I do not agree with you on the points but that is no surprise that parents do not agree on something in the rookie class.lol
We can always talk about this subject over a snowball !!!
Hope to see Sawyer there, Wendy
JT, I would still like an answer to my question, I do not like to bother Ronald at the track or at home so I thought this would be a good way to ask. You can contact me at (504) 259-3661.
Thanks...

Ok a SNOWBALL it is.... But I must warn y'all Sometime I get started on them snowballs and I just can't quit! LOL! Especially the Pina-Colada ones....
Maybe I don't uderstand the points. I'm not understanding why they would split them into feature 1 and feature 2 if there is only one track points champ. OH Well. It aint the first time I didn't understand something... Or so says my better half.
Anyway... We are off to Florida, I hear tale of a track down there were the Caliber of drivers is really, really high. So we are leaving in a few minutes to go test our caliber. We were going to Louisiana but I hear that Florida is the place to be this weekend. LOL!
Hope y'all have a good weekend. We'll see ya'll at GMP

At Acadiana, we draw & invert for the heat races, THEN combine according to points for the feature allowing for a points system like you are describing here. However, the way Ronald does things there still awards for consistency, which is what points championships are about, right?!
When we ran there last year, the groups changed race to race. That wouldn't allow for having a Feature 1 class and a Feature 2 class as how would you determine which group to apply your points towards?
And other than for the actual experience of qualifying, I'm not in favor of qualifying for these kids. Keeping with the "learning" intent of this class, having my driver get experience with slower karts in front of him and faster karts behind him is far more important to me than how well I setup his kart that day.

last yr in purple champ when we ran two features the classes where split by what position in points your driver was in. just say 1st thru 5th would always be in same feature and 6th thru 10t would be in another. ponts would go as this first feature say 1st thru 5TH ALWAYS GOT MORE POINTS THAN 6TH THRU 10TH WOULD THEREFORE NOT HAVING A 1ST PLACE POINTS DRIVER IN ONE ACE AND 2ND OR 3RD PLACE DRIVER IN ANOTHER. 6TH THRU 10TH ALWAYS GOT 6TH THRU 10TH PLACE POINTS AND NEVER GOT 1ST PLACE POINTS. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND A LITTLE OR IT MIGHT HAVE CONFUSED YOU EVEN MORE. WE WENT THROUGH THIS SAME QUESTIONS LAST YR

Ernie, Thats about as confusing as
Consider the unit circle. Denote its center (0,0) as O, and denote the point (1,0) on it as A. As a moving point B travels around the unit circle starting at A and moving in a counterclockwise direction, the angle AOB as a 0° angle and increases. When B has made it all the way around the circle and back to A, then angle AOB is a 360° angle. Of course, this is the same angle as a 0° angle, so we can identify these two angles. As B continues the second time around the circle, we get angles ranging from 360° to 720°. They're the same angles we saw the first time around, but we have different names for them. For instance, a right angle is named as either 90° or 450°. Each time around the circle, we get another name for the angles. So 90°, 450°, 810° and 1170° all name the same angle. Confused yet? LOL!
Simple way is to qualify and run them all in 1 feature.
Besides the Number drawing thing is for tracks that don't have transponders. But we are all lucky enough to have a track like GMP that The Parker family have made into a top notch track... TRANSPONDERS and all!
How many time has a kart been up from with another on their bumper and just ride like that for the whole race? Now, just think if that kart would have come up on slower traffic. Then the #1 kart would have to REALLY DRIVE to (ONE) get around the slower traffic and (2) Try and do it so that the one chewing on their bumper didnt get around them for the lead. That alone would change the outcome of a lot of the races.
Besides qualifing is part of racing. And we are teaching them about racing are we not?
In a class were the karts are all cut back, running the same gear, and gov'ed at 3900 rpm picking numbers is like drawing for the winner at registration. It's the luck of the draw, Not their ability to race their kart.
But hey, May be thats just the way I look at it. We want to race to beat karts on the track because we out drive them. We don't want to beat another kart because we drew the lucky number! It's a race Not a Lotto! LOL!

We are doing the Rookie Points the same way that we have always done them during my tenure at GMP.
After the first points race weekend, the top 5 or 6 karts in the points standing are put in the same heat/feature group and will always compete against each other. Since the points are updated well before the next race, we will always know who the top 5 or 6 are in the points and they will compete against each other.
This is done for 2 reasons.....the points champ is usually someone who runs almost every race weekend and he/she will win the points championship by beating the best Rookie drivers each weekend. Bottom line is this, if your driver is currently in the Top 5/6, he/she will not be racing with the other group of Rookies.
This also allows the less experienced rookie racers to compete against each other in the 2nd group.
As for putting 10 or 12 (or more) Rookies on the track at one time.....IMO, this is not a good idea.
Hope this answers your question, if not.....give me a call or find me at the track this weekend and I'll try to explain it better.
